I've wondered about using "bendy ply". This is ply that is very easy to bend though I've been lead to believe that the glue isn't specifically waterproof. We use it for hatch over-covers as it clamps down easily. Medium expensive.

It would also be interesting to see if a reverse curve (vertically) could be done near the bow to splay the top-sides - increase buoyance, decrease submarining.
