I use a Brian Burns jig to do the initial edge ... but I don't wanna mess with jigs and stuff just to touch up the edge during use ... too time consuming and picky ... and I don't like to interrupt the work process. For touch up I power strop with a flat disk of MDF or whatever hardwood I have layin' around ... charged with chromium oxide or boron carbide ... and attached to my lathe ... takes half a minute to bring the edge back good enough to shave with. A drill press will work just as well ... so will other compounds such as Dupont White Rubbing Compound and many of the stick polishing compounds.
