Mariners have 'em just in front of the cockpit and some of 'em have a cleat just aft of the cockpit to tie a tow rope to. I liked having 'em but didn't have much use for 'em ... I just wound my paddle leash around 'em ... some guys use 'em as a paddle park ... I suppose there are other uses.
