: Alex,
: What thickness ply is you hull and deck made of.
: I'm starting my Pax 18 soon and was considering taped seams only with 1/8 ply.
: Day boat only,no surf work .

I've a 20 year old single kayak (Seaward - note this model name was applied long before some US company used it) with 4 mm (25+ kg), the just replaced tortured hull used 3 mm Fijian kauri (18 kg) and the new one (Mac50L) uses 3 mm Fijian maple (what ever that is???)(18 kg). My partner's 10 year old Mac50 is 4 mm meranti (25 kg) and the new one she is building has 4 mm gaboon (okoume) on the bottom and Fijian maple for the rest of it. The 4 & 3 mm sheets weighed about the same so she hopes the finished weight should be about 18-19 kg.

1/8" = 3 mm, 3/16" = 4 mm - approx.

Alex
