I used bits and pieces of cedar and scarphed them together using Titebond III. If you don't have enough clamps, you can cut strips of inner tube and wrap it up. I used a firehose with the ends clamped off and a tire valve attached to it, which I then pumped up with air. (Worked great!) The result was a good solid 2x5, but it was bowed. So I screwed it to a 6' piece of plywood I had laying around and ran it through the table saw to square up one side. Took it off the plywood, and ran it through again to square up the other side. The laminations do not run perfect but it does what I want it to do.
