Is this similar to what you are talking about? With the first 5 or 6 strips I clamped by wrapping long rubber bands around the strips as in a previous picture but after the hull turned the corner the bands pulled down too much and not against the joint so I went to another method whereas I used fatter rubber bands across the jaws of the spring clamps and just pushed them over the new strips and clamped it to the last few strips. To get more holding power I would double up the bands as needed. It goes pretty quick as you just sling the band across the jaws of the clamp, hold it on the clamp with one hand as you open the jaws with the other, push it on and let it go.
