Hi Roy,

You are correct in saying that the degree of bevel varies, as in "rolls". My method was to make little pencil marks along the length of my strip -- a sort of code -- telling me something about the degree of bevel. Then I used a small sharp block plane to get things close while using the vise. A full-length strip usually required a couple of tune-up fittings after that, sometimes hand-held.

Using a vise or clamping devise does not equate to using a table saw to impart a 10 degree angle on the entire strip. We can still work a few inches at a time.

I think it's good that you question this method, as describing any method on the forum might not be completely clear.

Thanks,
Chris

: I know there's one in every crowd and today it's me. I can't see the point of
: using any kind of clamp because the bevel on a strip varies every few

: best using a small, sharp plane a few inches at a time. If you're going to
: be satisfied with a tight fit on the outside but varying width
: "V" shaped voids on the back, why not just run your strips
: through a table saw set at 10 degrees or whatever angle seems appropriate
: for your boat, or that strip?
: Don't want to seem negative but it just seems like a lot of work that in the
: end is just an approximation.
