First, I forgot this disclaimer in my original post: every kayaker and boatbuilder is responsible for his or her own safety, and it is incumbent upon the individual to personally test all of their systems to insure they don't pose a safety risk.

That said, I tried to get a foot tangled in them the first time I had them installed. Couldn't do it.

I used 1/8" bungies, which are really stretchy...I did actually wrap my foot in it once, and wet exited, and they were so stretchy, I got all the way out of the kayak, and then they snapped back.

I did have a dive mask under the bungies that first summer, that I kicked loose and lost during a wet exit, but that's been it.

Plus...there's always a pump in one, and a water bottle in the other, which makes it darn tough for the bungies to catch on anything else...
