Why vinyl?

Do you have it free? Because it would be pretty far down the list of desireable fabrics.

The three main choices are Nylon, Polyester and Canvas. The greatest number of SOF builders use Nylon or Poly because it's extremely puncture resistant, and shrinkable. It is a boat you are building and unless you are intending on using on a back yard pond that's only a few feet deep, I would bite the bullet and get a proven fabric because a puncture can occur anywhere.

Vinyl is successful on pools where it's up against a hard surface backing. But most pool liner people are highly advised about wearing sharp jewlery etc. And.. you're not out at sea or in the middle of a lake with it.
