I doubt the strength is affected very much. The amount of spray adhesive is very small, or rather, you should be very sparing in the use of the spray adhesive. Nick recommends using hot glue to tack on the cheek plates, prior to glassing. I have not seen adverse effects of those dots of hot glue, on the strength of the joint.

Bottomline, the results can vary, depending on the execution. So, I would recommend that you experiment with scraps, or on areas where cosmetics are not so critical, such as the high wear areas on the cutwater.
