Some pretty good ideas here, only one thing I would like to add. If you have large feet, be careful what you get. I wear size 12 or 13. There may be Minute, but important differences in the sizes of different types of shoe. My-self for instance, can only wear a neoprene boot or pool shoe type of thing. I CAN wear sneakers if I have to, but am uncomfortable. Can't move too well. If at all possible, build your boat first. Then you can climb in with a couple different types of shoe, and see what fits and what doesn't. (There is no way I could ever get a pair of "boots" in my boat for a winter paddle.) This way, you won't buy something that you can't wear in your boat.

If you don't have large feet...FUGGETABOUTIT!
