I used copper pipe to line the rope holes I drilled fore and aft. Light, cheap, and they look *right*.

I cut thepipe roughly to length, slathered the hole I drilled through the wood with epoxy, and rammed the pipe in. Nice tight fit with a comforting bead of epoxy pushed out around the holes completely on both sides of the boat. Took my grinder and ground down the copper pipe until flush with the wood. Being soft, you can grind copper down with a sander too. Much more wear resistant then pvc.
