Say Al, that loom length means you must do the slide stroke? The first knuckle of the index finger - is that measured from the hand or finger tip? it's either 4" or 6". The base of the thumb is not well defined at least on my hand anyway, a more accurate and easier measurement is the distance between the thumb and index finger when held in an open "C" shape
