It's true that it'd be more efficient, but it'd probably surprise you how ell a simple shape can work. Bringnig the trailing edge to a point is good for fluid floe, but I've cut my ankles more than once going from sitting on a surfboard to lying down to paddle. I'd probably taper the trailing edge to about .020 thick and round the edsges from there. Thinner metal will also help a little, but it'll work pretty well the way it's pictured.

Stalls usually originate near the leading edge, so not tapering the trailing edge won't have as dramatic an effect as you might imagine. I think rounding the leading edge is important though.
