It took a while to find but according to Cedar Pro Inc. http://www.mcquesten.com/article-cp4.htm Western Red Cedar is "native to the wetter, mountainous regions of southeastern British Columbia, northeastern Washington and northern Idaho - where it is known as Inland Red Cedar."

I would go for it. Definitely perform a common-sense test: put two samples side-by-side and decide based on quality. Avoid aromatic (closet) cedar. Avoid knotty boards. Ask to sort through the pile for the best boards.
