Take it easy Mark, I wasn't launching a personal attack on you for your strobe idea. It was your suggestion btw, complete with the interesting idea of tying it to the paddle blade.
The blade light notion does have some merit, imo. If one used a metal tube paddle, it would be rather simple to install a bright(ish) flashlight bulb in or near the blade, with batteries in the tube and a switch on the tube near the hand. It would then be a very easy matter to flick on the light and wave it as a flashlight at someone. Or to even use it as a general flashlight to look at things. No fumbling around to get to it either, which is its, er, shining, point. Could be a very slick thing actually.
You could do it with a wooden paddle, but it wouldn't be so simple or as neat.
