: A few of us fought a losing battle in Alaska last year when the state took
: over boat registration from the Coast Guard (last state in the Union to do
: this).

: The state instituted boat registration upon anything that floats and is 10
: feet or longer.

: Red ID state number sticker on the boat, registration carried with the boat
: any time it is out somewhere, manufacture ID numbers on the boat (or
: assigned numbers for homebuilts).

: Every individual boat has to be registered and if it is sold, the new owner
: has to reregister it (no transfers).

When I moved to Arizona years ago, they had similar legislation. I moved here from Pennsylvania which did not require non powered boats to be registered unless used on State Park or Fish Commission waters. I had quite a few boats and it was an expensive proposition. A couple of years ago the registration requirement for non powered boats was rescinded, presumably in response to pressure from paddler organizations. There is hope.
