: I have a Porter Cable 690 and it is a great router. I also have one of their new 2 horse plunge routers (6913 I believe) which I can't say enough about.

There were recommendations to get the Porter Cable 690 kit with the plunge base. I would recommend spending a few extra bucks (about $10.00) and getting the 2 H.P. plunge router instead. You get more power, a better plunge mechanism, and variable speed. If you ever use a large diameter bit variable speed is a must.

I was considering the Bosch or DeWalt plunge routers when I got the P.C. The problem with them was the openiing in the base was too small to accept a large diameter bit. I felt this limited the usefulness of the router greatly.
