: Thanks Rehd,
: I am a part time cabinet and furniture maker and I have been saving all of my
: plywood scrap lately. So cost won't be much of an issue.
: I was planning to build a box beam with some leftover 3/4 oak ply. Would
: metal studs be better?
: Mike

I can't say for sure as I haven't used them, but there are a few folks out there who have, with good results. I just use what I have and that would be plywood. There have been discussions in the past obout the metal beams and maybe you can find them in the archives. Some had pictures as well. I think the wooden box beam would be easier as you don't have to drill special holes and so forth to attach things, just run a screw into it anywhere. But, as I say, I haven't tried the other way, so can't say for sure.
