: George,
: Sorry for the confusion. I'm still using 1/4" thick strips, and I'm
: doing canoes and half-canoe bookcases. I'm just trying to reduce the
: fragile knife-edge left when a 1/4" radius cove is milled into a
: 1/4" thick strip.

I understood that the radius on the cove and bead cutters I've seen for strip building has been 1/8th inch, not 1/4 inch.

A 1/8th inch radius cutter will cover 1/4 inch strips since 1/4 inch is the diameter of the circular section that they cut. The cove will be 1/8 th inch deep.

A 3/8 inch radius would cover 3/4 inch stock. The cove cut on a 1/4 inch thick strip will be pretty shallow. I'd need to draw this out with a compass and a ruler to get a measurement, but I'm guessing it would be only about 1/16th of an inch deep.

Perhaps what you DO want is 1/4 inch radius cutting bits. The cove with this would be a bit less than 1/8th inch deep. Or maybe 5/16ths would do ya.

Just a thought
