: Don't use the skinned over varnish. It will be thick and painful to apply in
: a smooth coat. You might be able to thin it, but if you want a nice coat,
: get a new can.

I put my new varnish in Mason jars with sparate lids and screw tops. I buy a gallon and put it in four quart jars. This allows me to be sure of an air tight seal to prolong varnish shelf life. The separate lid lets you pry it off if some varnish gets left on the jar edge. You must wipe the jar edge clean after each use so you can get the lid off. Without the separate screw top lid removal can be tough. Put the varnish in a smaller jar whenever you have a jar near half empty.

I've heard you can blow a little propane gas into the jar/can as you close it to keep the varnish from skinning over. I haven't tried this yet.

Be careful if you do. Obviously you would not want to open a can with propane close to your face if you had a cig in your mouth.

All the best,
