: Hi John: I would highly recommend your checking out Ross Leidy's website. He
: has put together a fine way to build your own customized (using a form
: from your kayak) rack attachments to secure your boat. Looking forward to
: a pic on the roof of your vehicle! You can find his site under the profiles
: section of this site. Having difficult copying/pasting since upgrading to
: Netscape 6.

I have a lot of printing out of the different answers to my questions to do now.
A few comments. When I was in high school, a life time ago, I built a racing boat and a homemade trailer. I can't remember how I fastened the bow, I think with a rope but I did fasten the stern with a large barn door lock hinge. I didn't understand that metal fatigued and broke. As I was driving on the highway the boat come off and went sailing into the air and landed right side up in a grassy side ditch. I was very lucky it didn't hit someone and there was very little damage to the boat.

My car is a 98 Ford Contour without rain gutters. I ran my car type through Thul for a rack and they said they didn't have one for it. I did the same thing with Yakima and they do. So as a last resort I will buy the Yakima. I have been on Ross's pages looking at how he built his carriers and I will probably do that for a custom fit. I think I will go to Sears and check out the racks they have to offer, thanks for that idea.

I will get more into the scanner problems as has been suggested by several of you. What doesn't make sense to me is that I can scan and print a line drawing and it is OK, but if I send it to a file it is all numbers. MS-Word is always used to open it reguardless of the file I send it to. I thought this could be a problem, but I don't know that much about it. I will get more into this but I have to do some strips and get into my taxes. Ugggg.

Again, thanks everyone.
Take care,
John
