Scanner problem:

i agree that this looks like an OCR problem. you should be able to select scanning photos rather than documents. When scanning for OCR, though, there is usually an intermediate file made in the .tif or .tiff (on some older macintoshes) format. This is a bit mapped picture file of your document which is then read and interpreted by your computer. Usually these files linger unless you manually purge them. Try to find one of these intermediate files in a sub directory or folder in the area wehre your scanner software is located. You can also do a general search for *.tif files and find where they reside on your computer.

The easiest and most general way I've found to view these files is to use my word processor program. I create a new document and then use the command to import a picture( "insert picture", "insert image", or "insert graphic" are other terms that do this). Exactly where in your wordprocessing menu system this command resides will vary from one wordprocessor program to another, but usually I find this in the pull-down list under the FILE heading, or the EDIT heading. this usually gets you to a box where you can enter the file name of the image you wish to insert. usually there s a browse feature that allows you to see what files are available by suffix ( type in *.tif) and look at the date and time the file was created (if you can see these data) to see if it is the one you just scanned.

Cartops carriers: Head over to a Sears store and look in their automotive department. All the Sears near me have car top "cargo" carriers for sale. I think the brand is "X-Cargo" or something ike that. While these carriers are pretty useless for carrying boats, the attach to cartops with "gutter" clips and the company has a wide assortment of clip styles that work with the "gutterless" roof styles. I saw over thirty different shapes of clips, which were bent into som odd. convoluted patterns, and seem to be designed to attach to the inside of the door opening. The clips are specific for styles and years of vehicles.

It seems you would buy the generic carrier, get the right clips to attach it to your particular vehicle, and lace those clips onto the straps that secure the carrier to your rooftop. The neat thing is that these clips are available separately so that people who owned a carrier can move it from car to car.

Get 4 of the right clips for your car and you can make a carrier rack of cheap 2x4s held on with some ratchet action web straps.

The company that makes the clips had a display at my local Sears which had an 800 number to call if you needed clips for a car which was not listed on their display.

Hope this helps.
