Thanks Hitman and Geo., for your help and information. I have Rehd's information on sewing saved. This is what I am thinking at this time. I am planing a solo trip with my kayak into the Boarder Wilderness Canoe Area in Northern MN in Aug. I will have to do a lot of portaging between lakes and so I must keep my total weight down with the kayak and equipment to around 100 lbs. So to do double duty, I am considering taking a poncho for rain gear and also using it for a skirt while I have it on, in rough or rainy weather. I won't be doing a roll in case of trouble but will rely on my built in spronsors/storage combinations for safty, which I will check out before I go on the trip. I am going to try to build the combing and lip using auto-body two part plastic and wiping it up in a straight line and then setting it around the cockpit opening while its still plyable and letting it set up to that shape and then putting a layer of fiberglass over it. I have done this type of thing before but nothing this big. So if it works out I will post pictures, but this is a couple of months off yet.
