Try the WoodenBoat School in Maine. They teach a variety of classes throughout the summer. CLC and Ted Moores both teach there. I built two CLC boats in classes there. Some of the advantages are:

1) Spending a week focused on building a boat, with like-minded people.
2) Working in a fully equipped workshop. (Unlimited access to clamps)
3) Comfortable lodging, good food
4) Excellent teachers
5) Meeting students in other concurrent classes at the school.

I didn't save any money over buying a fiberglass boat, but I got a vacation in Maine for each boat I built. I took 4 classes in three years, then decided to move to Maine. I'm about 2 hours from the school and manage to drop by once or twice a year. (Usually the say "Hi" to Ted Moores when he's there to teach.)
