: I tried the Durhams putty but could not get it the consistancy I wanted. I do
: think it is the best filler if you can make it work. When I fill with
: thickened epoxy, I use masking tape on both sides of the fill, no matter
: how narrow it is. This prevents most of the discoloring, just scrape off
: the high spot. I also agree with filling before seal coat so you dont sand
: off seal coat when removing excess filler.

I too used Durhams on my hull. I mixed it with microballons and wood flour from the sander to adjust the color. It worked well and mixing it with other items didn't seem to cause any drying problems. I also used some pre-mixed colored wood putty on the deck. It's sold in white plastic tubs everywhere and comes in 2 colors, the regular pine color and another for dark woods which dries to a color which really blended well with the red cedar. All the different mixes I use epoxied equally well and look very acceptble. Lots of ways to get to the same place.
