IMHO While you could do it either way, I would recommend against the board against the fence instead of the strip against the fence for 2 reasons. I think it would be harder to maintain a consistant thickness of strip because you open yourself up to error every time you move the fence. Second, it would take you a month to cut all of those strips up if you have to measure between each one.

Spend your time making sure your blade and the fence are square to the table, use some good long guides attached to the fence and rip away, it really isn't too hard once everything is set up and you get going.

I made myself a go-no go guage out of a piece of steel with .23 and .26 slots as a quick way to check the strip thickness without having to measure each time, just slide the guage along the strip to see if it fits in the large slot but doesn't fit in the small slot. You could do the same thing with a piece of hardwood.
