Hi Bob;

First off, I am the beginner - I had never built a wood strip anything before. I have done a lot of standard hobby woodworking though - And I found during strip construction that duck tape is by far the easiest clamping technique I had ever used. It is simple and forgiving, and leaves no holes - Those ugly holes which, later in the construction, turn into thousands of dark brown spots.

The only problem I've heard of when using duck tape as a clamp is when people use the "cheap stuff," which leaves most of its adhesive behind. Sam's Club and Walmart have the "good stuff" at less-than-cheap prices. $10 worth will build a substantial sized kayak, so don't skimp there . . . Otherwise, lots of extra adhesive cleanup work will be the result.

As to glue removal, it's best done when it is still soft, with a wet rag. That poses no problems for later epoxying/finishing steps. It you miss that opportunity, it scrapes off with a standard paint scraper with no problems or after effects. You are going to plane and sand the surface extensively, so there will ultimately be nothing but wood left anyway.

Please be sure to take pictures! :)

Best Regards, Spidey
