In Response To: C&B - how accurate is accurate? (Greg Hughes)

Greg - I had the same trouble when I cut my bead and coves in 3/16" mahogany. I had a featherboard holding the strips down, and another holding them against the fence. The test cuts in short pieces of strips were dead on. When I cut the fourteen footers, however, the beads were slightly off center here and there. I traced the problem to the strips lifting off the table. This happened when the strips were left unsupported after running off the edge of the table. As the strip bent over the edge of the table, it sprung the part still on the table upward, causing an off center cut. This happened even though the feather board was adjusted to hold the strips down. I couldn't put enough pressure on the featherboard to stop the springing because then I couldn't move the strip. Next time I will have more featherboards and much longer infeed and outfeed support. Hope this sheds some light on your problem. - John
