Hi,

1) If you haven't done so, check out the thread below entitled New Builder, started 5/12...good info about pygmy, CLC, etc. Sounds like you are definitely capable of building from plans.

2) Get a copy of Nick Schade's book for insight into strip building.(go back to the home page for this board for ordering info)..

3) Seems like the major difference between plywood and strippers is the amount of time required to build one - maybe about 40-60 hrs. for a plywood (Okoume) which could get you on the water quicker, but the strippers are beautiful.

4) The common theme is to try out as many boats as possible, then select a design. Unfortunately, that wasn't practical for me, unless I wanted to rent a lot of plastic boats and then build a rotomold plant.

5) FWIW, I'm finishing a CLC Ch17' for my 1st boat (from plans)...Everything is fairly easy, even for someone like me who can't build a decent bird feeder. So you shouldn't be intimidated by the process. And whichever method you select will give you some experience with the materials which would make the next one easier (no one stops at one!).

Good Luck
