As food coloring is water-based, I'd wonder about it's compatability with epoxy. Sounds like it went off OK. I have seen color additives (WEST?) and all sorts of things used for color; graphite or toner, copper filings, different species of wood are just a few examples. If it were me, I'd try to stick with a dry powder that would mix in. I'd be a little hesitant to add water to epoxy. Sounds like a neat effect, fillets and exterior color coordinated!
