I made the mistake of not cutting off the edge, or cutting my own tape from cloth when building my first boat, also a Coho. My strip was layed up over the bottom glass, so what I ended up doing was to feather the edge as far as I could without cutting into the glass on the bottom, then brushing on more epoxy ove the edge so that it could feahered later.

It all worked out fine, but would have been much less work to have just smoothed the edge down with the sqee gee in the first place.
