Fiberglass Tape Edge

I've just completed putting a sacrificial strip of 8.5 oz fiberglass tape on the keel of my Pygmy Coho last night. This was done immediatley after putting the first fill coat over the fiberglass cloth covering the outside of the hull. I noticed that one edge of the tape seemed thicker than the other edge. After epoxying, that edge really sticks up no matter how much I tried to squeegee it down. Because it would take so much epoxy to cover it I was thinking of using a cabinet scraper to lower that edge so it isn't so prominent. Is that likely to cause a problem? The epoxy is still green and the tape edge should be easy to trim. I'll stop before I cut in to the flat portion of the tape or surrounding fiberglass.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks Mike
