I mounted my footbraces to 1"x1.5"x0.5" oak blocks, one at each end of the footbraces. I used the standard procedure of mounting them with stainless T-nuts and machine screws that I bought at West Marine. I made a series of shallow cuts on the backside of the blocks to ensure that I had lots of surface area to adhere to. This method works great.
