Hi Spidey,

The Veritas is priced at $98.00 Canadian [hope my wife does not read this post!] which is about $30.00 more than the Record/Stanley low angle block planes. Overall I feel that the Veritas is easily worth the 30% more money.

The blade advance mechanism is very smooth and positive. Combined with the set screws to control lateral blade position adjusting the blade is like moving the cross-slide on a lathe - very fine adjustments are easy.

Over all the machining, the finish and the materials are better. This plane fits comfortably in my hand without the levers and knobs in the way. The large brass throat adjustment knob at the front of the plane has a concave top perfect for resting the index finger - great for control.

Yup, I like the Veritas - it is one of those tools that brings a smile to your face every time you use it [making kayaks always makes me happy!].

And what about this new saw - I thought you were done buying tools [for now]?
