ONLY using string - the 'BIG AL' way

? Quick question....Should I string the forms onto the strongback bow up and ? flip the whole thing over (seems to be what Nick is doing) or is that just ? for display purposes of the book. Seems to be easier to align the forms ? deck-down and not worry about and deflection during rotation. I hate ? rotation deflection!

? By the way...I may be in trouble. I was hand planing the internal stems ? yesterday and was really enjoying it! When this thing starts looking like ? a yak, I may not see the wife and daughter until the glass is done!

Well ya see , big Al eh? - big, BIG, BIIIIGGGG!!

Now all he does is stack all the forms under his 24in drill press, and drills 2 holes thru all the forms at once w/ a 1/4in bit anywhere, like ANYWHERE. Don't matter cept theys a splash or so apart. And the forms - like they're dirty - pcs of hambugger, pizza, pcs a', scum, hurl and munge! Yeeechh!

Then 'e takes 40' of 1/4in steel cable, loops it around the closest tree. the two free ends are fed into the two 1/4in holes on ea form, then 11 1/2in of scap pipe, then another form, then pipe, until the end.

Ties the two ends together and drops 'em over the trailer hitch of the old amc hummer he found in a ditch one day and backs her up to the tree. Redlines the hummer and drops the clutch - like just POPS the clutch - and he's goin 40 by the time the cable catches up.

SPROOOOIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGG! Sparkling clean - every scrap of filth, dirt or scunge is flyin off in all directions, perfectly aligned, and at 8000 lbs of tension, perfectly straight. Slaps on a few strips or so while the hummer is still luggin and he has a Still-not Guillemot.

Seriously now??? You could prob make it work:

Prob drill the holes perpendicular (top and bottom of the form). Tie the end loops around the perimeter of the end forms (prob have to groove thru the upturns). Lay a string w/ wt attached over the cables at the front and the stern. When the cables tight, pry the ends untill the wted line just touches the bottom cable at both ends. Becaus the cable is around the end forms too, everything lines up. If for pulling tight, you clevis a single cable to the front loop and same on the back, you could spin the whole assy like a rotisserie
