Most of the references I've seen to using such light glass has been in the model building magazines. Parts for model airplanes, for example. (and boats as has alread ybeen mentioned)

Defender has a great price on lightweight cloth. Depending on where you look in the catalog it is either $5 or $7.50 for a ten yard length if you buy a gallon of resin from them. That is only 50 to 75 cents a yard. They have both cloth and a non woven mat in that weight. I think if you want to work with really complicated curves you should consider the mat instead of the woven cloth. Look for their entire catalog online at their website (www.defenderus.com) Their "online" catalog doesn't contain fiberglass materials :( but their complete catalog ( which is also online -- go figure) does. look at the fine print under the product listings for resin and this lightweight cloth for the lower price combo deals.

I think light cloth would be ideal for paddles, or maybe for covering areas on plywood boats that you want to fiberglass, even though the designer says they don't need it.

Hope this helps
