Sorry I hit the wrong button the first time.

Back when I was building RC boats, the only glass that we used on the bottom of the boats was in the 1/2 to 2oz per sq yd range. Never seemed to have any real problems other than hitting a bank at 70 mph. These boats were typicaly built of 1/16 thick plywood. This plywood was fairly hard compared to a soft grained wood, but still could be dented much more easily than when glassed. I would think from experience that the thin glass should greatly "hard shell" the paddle blade.
