If you really must cut your own, use at least two feather boards (some call a finger board) to help keep even pressure on the wood. One on the fence applying pressure toward the table and one on the table pushing toward the fence. These should be positioned just ahead of the blade to keep from binding once the stock enters the blade. And use a fresh sharp blade. Don't even attempt to cut strips this thin unless your table has a solid, straight fence.
