Why do we need the tape? Could we get the same strength and abrasion resistance from multiple layers of cloth strips? It would seem that 2 layers of 4oz.clot would equal 1 layer of 8 oz. tape and being able to make each cloth strip different widths would be much easier to feather the edges. Has anyone built a S&G kayak using only cloth where tape was indicated?
