For elastic type lines, I melt the ends. Hot surfaces work great for forming, though I've also done a good job with the gas stove and my fingers. Hurts a little that way though.

For non-elastic type lines, I like whipping the ends. I like the way that looks and works. And if you feel like being silly or are into color coordination, dental floss works well and comes in a nifty variety of colors and flavors.
