The Pigmy advice from Ralph seems like good advice. Epoxy will continue to blush for a long time after it's hard. Mke sure you scrub it good before varnishing. Using it once in a while will do no damage. Besides, you got to try it to outfit it.

I have a Greenland paddle with epoxy only as it's finish. It bakes in the sun all summer long and I re-coat it at the end of the summer - mostly because of cosmetics. In some places the wood starts to show through as though the epoxy evaporates???? It just leaves gradually. I never experienced the clouding that I sometimes read about. The boat is more valuable. Use it sparingly and store it inside or covered till varnished.
