Sanding Spanish Cedar tends to have a "hairy" quality. We did much of the deck on this kayak, and it takes a lot more work to get the surfaces smooth. The other woods are basswood accent lines, and Peruvian walnut along the sides, with dark WRC for the hull.
It took me a while to find wood source that weren't an arm and a leg, but I also live in WA.
