I am a first time strip builder and just purchased 14' Great Auk plan. I live north of Houston, TX and have been unable to find any cedar or spruce. I can find fir and poplar which I have used on other projects. I can also get redwood, cypress and maybe basswood. I know that the fir and cypress are heavier and I read that redwood is brittle and may have problems with epoxy. I know the poplar is not very pretty but is easy to work. Any recommendations?
