Absolutely much to hard and complicated.
I cut a simple angled cut on both board ends using a jig on the tablesaw.
Coat both ends with epoxy until it doesn't suck up the glue (coating it twice generally works).
Clamp one end to a piece of angle (~2" will do) with the scarf down.
Shove the other piece under the first allowing the clamped board to stop the second for location.
Clamp the second board down, clamp the scarf area together, then put clamps on the other side of the boards to make sure the overall stringer is straight.
Set over night.
