There are different thoughts on skinning and much depends on the fabric itself. There were a couple of 8 oz polyesters out there, one of which the weave was MUCH looser than the other. Both of them, if you pulled tight like you do nylon, would leave big pull holes. On the looser weave it would leave potholes!

I did a skinning video for the looser weave polyester showing my methods. It worked on both fabrics.

Experience has shown me that the polyester does have some memory and after finishing it, it will relax a little and most times will not longer be drum tight. The more I do the more I am leaning toward sewing it on snug and shrinking out any wrinkles but that isn't easy to do but it can be done.

As a side note, as far as I can tell there is not more 8 oz polyester available anymore. I sold a lot of but in talking to the manufacturers the surplus market has dried up. They will gladly run anything I want but you are talking a minimum of 100's of yards of fabric. I have managed to find an 11.5 oz. fabric that should be in next week.
