Thanks for your thorough response, John! Never done this before. The directions from Pygmy are great, but you can't beat learning from others' experience.

A couple more questions:
Should I squeegee excess epoxy on the seal coat or just when I glass?

I hear a heat gun is useful for eliminating bubbles. Any special precautions I should take if I do that?

Jenn

I'm glad to help, but be sure to get some other advice, since there are lots of methods (and opinions) out there.
Get your hands on a copy of Ted Moores book if you can.

Seal coat: I've only done this a few times, but I certainly try to use as little epoxy as possible for that step, so yes, use a squeegee to remove excess. I've even used a paper towel to get rid of some shiny 'streaks' left behind by the squeegee. Bjorn Thomasson says that it shouldn't take more than 100mL of epoxy to seal coat a hull so that should give you an idea of the coating thickness- spread it wide!

I've never had much luck using a heat gun for bubbles, but you do want to avoid getting the surface 'too hot' so use a lower heat setting if available and keep the gun moving. Burning epoxy is very smelly!
Bubbles are usually (for me) more of an issue with a strip-built boat than when using plywood for S&G, though you may get a few along the panel joins.
