The main advantage of a curved bulkhead is that when used behind the seat, it reduces the amount of excess space and therefore the amount of water that the cockpit can hold. It also provides a nice ramp for emptying water from the cockpit.

The curve I am thinking of could be called a bulge. If we could install a flat bulkhead and then pump air in so it bulged like a large ball and freeze that shape, all edges are still in the flat plane. Another analogy is the way a plastics garbage can lid will distort and return to shape if the can is squeezed.

Is there a way to make it strong until we need it to give, like the crumple zone on a car, except we want it to return to its original shape. I haven't finished my first build yet so I have a ton to learn about the materials and there limits.
