I use my sander a lot, but I can't stomach the price of a Festool. If I won the lottery maybe, but even doing a lot of work I can't justify the price. I have a Bosch 3725DEVS with a Dust Deputy and a big Shop-Vac with a Gore Cleanstream filter. In Fine Woodworking tests it was as good at dust collection and sanding performance as the Festool, at a much lower price. If I use Abralon pads on a flat surface it is 100% dust-free. I don't often do that, though, because the Abralon discs don't last as long as traditional sanding discs. It was vibration free until it had a big fall. That's my only complaint. It was a big fall, though. I'm sure a hand-held with a plastic housing would have bit the dust.

I don't often need an orbital sander, and I admit that sometimes it would be nice, but not enough to justify a Festool. If I really needed an orbital that bad and I couldn't slap a sanding disc on my buffer (which is a monstrous tool) I could buy a cheap one, use it, and then put it away for another year.

For a boat- I can't justify the expense. A long board is a more important tool to me, and if I were really motivated to use a power tool I might be inclined to get a pneumatic long board, but there you're talking more than a Festool price-wise.
