Strip: Filler for small nail holes & joints

Anyone have any experience or thoughts about using a mixture of....CEDAR SAW DUST and "DURHAM'S" ROCK HARD WATER PUTTY...to be used as a filler for a few small holes and cracks that I have in my cedar strip built......a practice mixture came up with pretty good color match..and I know it will sand up nice from using the "WATER PUTTY" on paint jobs...I was wondering if anyone has any idea what will happen when the Epoxy goes on....This might be a no-no to use...but I am always looking for alternative methods and new ideas.....Thanks....GPS
